In our earlier blog posts we looked at various aspects of the mind, from the emotional to the action oriented. In this we use the analogy to a machine to help us understand the importance of maintenance and upkeep.

The miraculous machine

In terms of evolution from a single celled organism to multi celled creatures, humans are at the top of the evolution scale and food chain chain. This evolution has been gradual and over a period of billions of years. The body as a whole is a miracle. The mind is central to this miraculous machine.

We touched upon the various functions of the machine, and how it is intertwined with every aspect of life from birth till the end. The mind does not rest even in sleep. This non stop working of the mind without proper care can have serious consequences for an individual.



Mind, the machine and it's maintenance - Significance

In the earlier post we looked at the information overload that the mind is being subjected to, after the invention of internet, smart phones and social media. From 2004 to 2014 the internet traffic grew by 564 times.(Arielle Sumits - The History and Future of Internet Traffic blog)

Information overload

The mind is one of the main organs in the body to be directly impacted by the information overload. When we say mind is impacted for a person, in a way his entire life is impacted as mind is involved in all aspects of our life.

Body and mind has evolved slowly over billions of years, but the information explosion has been exponential over the past decades. This sudden explosion has definitely contributed to the mental challenges the world is facing.

Effects of information overload

By the time science followed its step by step approach to observe, record, quantify, evaluate, review and conclude, the consequences of the information overload, effects of information explosion has grown to epic proportion. With business and marketing deeply involved in promoting the information age, mental illness is going to get much worse before it gets better.

We see obvious signs of the mental turbulence in the current generation with symptoms like shortened attention span, impatience, dependence on social media, exaugurated actions & emotions.

Any Solutions? - Better late than never

It is obvious that the current social and economic setup in the world is not geared to well being of the human community as a whole. We have a long way to travel to achieve such kinds of cohesion among cultures, countries, governments/rulers, corporations, industries, people and so on. So it will be naïve to expect any real intervention from them.

The awareness and the solution is at the hands of the individual, unless there is a committed effort from each individual to understand the relationship between his mind, his health and life, the outlook is grim.

What is the solution?

The answer to the question "How to do/What to do ?" is not an issue, there are multitude of ways to address the mental turbulence, as varied in approach as the different colors in the rainbow.

Priority and the will to want to address it matters, neither the blog nor the blogger can influence an individual's will. Unfortunately people are moved into action after pain and shock. Humans are tuned to learn from experience, as a child finds out through experience, that the finger burns when it touches the candle fire. In a similar manner mental turbulence will explode to epic proportions before it gets better.

Time to take the necessary steps to craft a beautiful life.
