Mind, Incompetence, and the Rise of AI: Navigating Mental Clarity in a Measured World

Mind, Incompetence, and the Rise of AI: Navigating Mental Clarity in a Measured World In our previous blogs, we have covered the aspects of the mind, every person deals with, in their day to day life. As we move on to more general open ended topics/concepts, for a single point of view there may be contrary, supporting and thousand other point of views. That is the way the mind and logic is and the way the discussion should be. Incompetence and handling it Competence in simple terms can be defined having the required ability combined with a minimum quality standard, when the either the standard is not met or the ability is missing, it is termed as incompetence . This is not a blog about do it yourself tips in handling the perceived incompetence. There is no magic wand to handle incompetence. Only solution is to objectively look at what is lacking, the ability or the minimum standard, or both, then get to work on it. Excuses, procrastination are all milestones in the journey towards co...

The Essence of the Human Mind: Thought, Memory, and Identity

The Essence of the Human Mind: Thought, Memory, and Identity

This is a one among the many blog posts about the mind. In the previous blog we embarked on a journey to explore "Mind Matters". Links to previous topics are given at the end of the blog. Readers are encouraged to go through the previous blogs

What is mind ?

At the outset even an attempt to define what the word "mind" represents an envious adventure. For the purpose of the blog and for the time being let us limit the definition of the mind as an vital organ in the body that performs a set of predefined tasks.

What pre defined tasks?

The mind is tasked with receiving input from other physical organs like eyes, ears, nose, skin and tongue perform a series of action on the information received and stores it. For now lets not go into how this takes place in the human body.

Broadly the three stage activity of reception, processing and storage of information, are functions of the mind about which we are focused upon in this blog.

Reception - Mind as a receptor

The brain is one of the vital physical organs in the human body, through electrical impulses it interacts with all other parts of the human body. What we see, hear, smell, touch and taste are inputs received by the brain from the eyes, ears, nose, skin and tongue respectively.

These are the major five mediums through with we interact with our mind on a day today basis both internally and with the external word. Through any one or a combination of any one of the five mediums, the human mind can be influenced.

The stage at which mind acts as a receptor is the stage at which it can be influenced easily. Huge amounts  of  money and effort  have been invested, in extensive research, on how to influence the mind using the five mediums. Lets leave the motives of the researchers and sponsors aside whatever the motive maybe

This constant exposure and targeting of the five mediums in order to influence the mind has created many avoidable mental issues. Mental illness is a silent pandemic set to increase as time goes by. Any approach to mental wellbeing excluding any of the five mediums is not a wholistic approach to mental health.

Handling the inputs - Mind as a processor

The electrical signals from the five mediums received by the mind are processed and stored as memory in the human body. The mind ensures that this storage is done aptly in a segregated way and the electrical signals are not mixed up.

It is always nice and simple when things work properly. It will be highly awkward if you hear things when you open your eyes.

Storing information as memory - Mind as a storage medium

The mind after receiving inputs and processing them now moves on to storing the information. This information is stored across the body right from the brain to the muscles in the body as memory.

The underlying basis of any human experience is entirely an outcome of this stored memory. I will stress this statement once again, the underlying basis of any human experience is entirely an outcome of this stored memory.

The very fact that the mind does not discriminate and stores the all information received, is the beauty or the madness of the mind's job. But wait all along I have heard that it is the mind that discriminates ?

Really ? Will encourage the people reading this to ponder over this. The mind does its job smoothly and very effectively whether we like it or not.

From Evolution to Overload: The Mind’s Struggle in a Hyperconnected World

From Evolution to Overload: The Mind’s Struggle in a Hyperconnected World In our earlier blog posts we looked at various aspects of the mind, from the emotional to the action oriented. In this we use the analogy to a machine to help us understand the importance of maintenance and upkeep. The miraculous machine In terms of evolution from a single celled organism to multi celled creatures , humans are at the top of the evolution scale and food chain chain. This evolution has been gradual and over a period of billions of years. The body as a whole is a miracle. The mind is central to this miraculous machine. We touched upon the various functions of the machine, and how it is intertwined with every aspect of life from birth till the end. The mind does not rest even in sleep. This non stop working of the mind without proper care can have serious consequences for an individual. Mind, the machine and it's maintenance - Significance In the earlier post we looked at the information overloa...

Why Emotional Intelligence Matters More Than Ever

Why Emotional Intelligence Matters More Than Ever In our last blog we looked at words, memory links and triggers. In this blog let's explore what is emotion , the link between emotion and mind generally referred to as emotional intelligence and the best way to explore them. Mind and Emotions The experience of life is enriched by the type of emotions we carry. Highly contrasting emotions are triggered within us, while meeting a sweet dumb person or a prickly intelligent person . The emotions which we project and which we are subjected to invariably decide the quality of our life experience. What are Emotions ? Creatures await, the cosmic song and dance, with roaring sounds and piercing lights, to breaks the deep dark silence hanging above. Many colorless drops of lives follow, travelling miles from sky to earth, to nourish the longing creatures below. Another deep red river flows up and down in silence, nourishing the flesh and bones. It dances to a two pace tune, of an organ of e...

Why Observation of the Mind Is Key to Joyful Living

Why Observation of the Mind Is Key to Joyful Living We have looked in our previous blogs, what is the apt relationship to maintain with our mind ? and why we need to maintain so?. In the current blog we look at, what is commonly referred to as the chatter of the mind . MIND'S CHATTER TO MINDFULNESS We talked about the constant information pounding of the mind, What does this result in ? More information being stored and memory links forming over time. One of the major consequences of this is the amplification of the existing chatter in the mind. CHATTER or THOUGHTS Until now we have not touched upon the subtle aspect of the mind which is the " thoughts ". The seemingly unorganized and repeated thoughts and it pattern's are generally referred to as the chatter. Everyone hears, see them for themselves and understands what is going on. The inner voice is a constant companion, never fixed ever changing, moving from one extreme to another. Like it or not constantly going ...
